Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

The University of Regina offers free English language classes.  At the U of R you can improve your English and integrate into Canadian culture while enjoying a university atmosphere. LINC is fully funded by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Class schedule

Class options: Classes Available for CLB Literacy, CLB Level 1-4

Five daytime classes/week:

Monday to Friday

9:00 am - 2:30 pm

Four daytime classes/week

Monday to Thursday

9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Weekend Classes:

Saturday

9:00 am - 2:30 pm

Two evening classes/week:

Monday and Wednesday

Eligibility

You are eligible for the LINC program if you:

  • are a Permanent Resident of Canada, Protected Person or Refugee,
  • are 18 years of age or older

Registration

Step 1: Take the Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test (CLBPT)

You need to visit the Language Assessment and Referral Centre (LARC) to take a CLBPT test.

Step 2: Choose your LINC program

If you choose to join the LINC program at the University of Regina, you must come to the LINC office:

  • CLBPT scores
  • Confirmation of Permanent Residency
  • Permanent resident card (if applicable)
  • Referral card from LARC

Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Closed on Fridays (July-Aug): 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm 

Regular business hours will resume in September.

Childcare Services 

Childcare is provided on campus by Wascana Centre Daycare. Childcare is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Please be aware of the following:

  • Childcare is provided only during LINC evening classes,
  • Childcare is provided for children between the ages of 18 months and 12 years of age,
  • Students who receive childcare services are required to maintain a minimum attendance rate of 90%. 

Parking

Please refer to the parking map for reference 

1. LINC day time students can purchase a regular "M" Parking Permit which costs $46.50 per month. This permit allows you to park in areas marked "M".

2. LINC evening (after 5:00 pm) and weekend students can park for free in areas marked either "M" or "Z", or at any parking meter.

To get a parking permit at Parking and Transportation Services Office, please bring your:

  • photo ID,
  • student ID #, and
  • vehicle license plate number

U-Pass

During the Fall and Winter semesters, LINC students can opt into the U-Pass service. For a fee of $87.60 per semester, students get a city-wide transit pass that is valid for the entire semester. To opt into the U-Pass service, bring your student ID # to the URSU desk in the Riddell Centre.
