Explore Program

Explore logo Do you want to become a more effective communicator in English? Do you want to learn more about and experience Western Canada? 

Each year the U of R offers five-week Explore sessions in Spring and Summer to Canadian postsecondary students who are 18 years or older if sponsored with an Explore bursary by the Government of Canada. These programs are also available to international non-bursary students who are 16 years or older. Students under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a chaperone.

Discover Regina, Saskatchewan, While Learning English


• Build your confidence and improve your fluency in English, while having fun.
• Use English in real-life situations, interacting with native English speakers and local residents.
• Participate in formal lessons, local tours, cultural activities and more.
• See or visit local places such as the RCMP Training Centre, where Canada’s RCMP recruits are trained.

Costs


The Explore bursary from the Government of Canada covers tuition, textbooks & materials, and many activities with Cultural Assistants (U of R students) and for in-person programs, also covers accommodation and food. Bursary recipients will need to pay a non-refundable registration fee of $275 CAD to confirm their spot in both virtual and in-person programs. Bursary recipients taking an in-person program are also responsible for paying for their flight to Regina. Please note that Explore bursaries come directly to the University of Regina. Bursary recipients do not receive any money from the Government of Canada. The Explore bursary is taxable income for the recipients. For more information, see the Explore Canada website.


The in-person program cost for international students is $3,860 CAD. This covers most expenses such as tuition, textbooks & materials, and many activities with Cultural Assistants (U of R students) and for in-person programs, also covers accommodation and food. For students not staying in residence, the fees will be adjusted accordingly. International students need to pay a non-refundable registration fee of $275 CAD to confirm their spot for in-person programs. International students taking in-person programs are responsible for paying for their flight to Regina and must purchase their own health insurance from their country.


The cost of the virtual program for international students is $1045 CAD. This covers all expenses including tuition, virtual activities, textbooks and materials. International students will need to pay the full fee upfront for virtual programs.


Students may choose the following at additional cost:

In-person programs only:
• Optional Weekend activities (if offered)
• Swimming pool and fitness centre on-campus
        o $75 fee for unlimited use throughout the program

Virtual programs only:
$325 fee for matching with a virtual local contact. A virtual local contact is a Regina resident who you can meet one-on-one for additional conversation practice.

 

Languages at Work


• If you are an Explore participant in an in-person program, you will have the opportunity to receive a job placement after the program. Use your second language in a workplace environment, improve your fluency, build your resume and earn money!

• You must be 18 years of age or older.
• You must be a bursary recipient.
