UR Priority, a new Housing Services initiative, gives new students the ultimate first-year student housing experience!

All first-year students who choose to live on campus will be placed in Kīšik Towers or College West so that they can make new connections and learn to navigate the university together.

The central hub – the UR Priority Centre – is located on the first floor of Kīšik Towers and will offer a variety of in-house services to support a seamless transition to university life.

UR Priority programming has been designed around four pillars: academic support, personal wellness, social engagement and student lifestyle.

Programming examples include budgeting advice, tutoring, academic advising, counselling, volunteer opportunities, conflict resolution, social events and a whole lot more!

First-year domestic students are also eligible for Housing Entrance Awards of $1,000 off 4-bedroom apartments or $1,500 off private dorms in Kīšik Towers if you apply by April 30.

New students who apply for housing before April 30 also get to choose their exact apartment (including bedroom) or dorm.

So if watching the sunset is must, or if you’d love a view of the lake, then be sure to apply by the deadline and you’ll have the power to choose.

If that isn’t incentive enough, here’s ten more reasons you should consider living on campus next semester.

1. Furnished rooms

Moving furniture can be a pain. Make things easy for yourself and move into a fully furnished room! From cozy, single dorms to two-storey, 7-bedroom apartments, there’s a variety of room layouts to choose from that fit your style.

2. Utilities included

Speaking of easy – when you move in to U of R Housing, you don’t need to worry about paperwork and monthly bills. U of R Housing’s single contract includes:

  • Internet connection (Wi-Fi and Ethernet)
  • Power, water, and heating
  • Province-wide landline with free local calling

3. Great location

Living on campus means all your essentials are just around the corner! You’re just a short walk from fitness facilities, Wascana Centre, restaurants, coffee shops, and more. Major shopping centres and grocery stores are only a short bus trip away.

4. 24/7 staff support

Whatever the situation, the friendly support staff at Housing Services have your back 24/7! Whether you need a hand with something in your room or need to know the best place in town to grab a slice, the Residence Life Team is always able to help you out or get you involved in the many activities planned specifically for students who live on campus.

5. Safe & secured

The U of R is a safe and secure place to live and learn for everyone. The housing buildings and entire U of R campus are smoke-free, secured, and monitored 24/7 by the skilled and friendly Residence Life Team. Campus security is also just a phone call away. Need someone to walk you safely to your car? Take advantage of their Walk A Long program.

6. Amazing lounges

Had a stressful day of classes? Kick back and relax with your friends in one of the cozy lounges. Watch a movie in the theatre room, shoot some pool in the games room, practice your instrument in one of the soundproofed music rooms, or share dinner in one of the community kitchens. There’s even cooking classes put on by the Residence Life Team!

7. Academic support

Take advantage of in-residence academic supports like tutoring and advising to support your academic success. Balance your academics with social and personal development events that are put on by the Residence Life Team that aim to build career experience and encourage a balanced lifestyle.

8. High speed internet

For gamers, streamers, and the generally impatient, there’s no need to worry about lag or buffering times with the lightning-fast internet included in your contract. Utilize the Wi-Fi throughout the building or take advantage of the Ethernet ports in each bedroom.

9. Quick walk to the gym & pool

Keeping up with your exercise routine can be tough during the semester. We all know that half the battle is just getting there! When you live on campus, you’re only a short walk away from the U of R’s gym and pool so you can break a sweat (or go for a massage) and de-stress. You can also attend Cougars and Rams games free of charge and cheer on our teams to victory!

10. Meet new friends

Housing is a place where a wide variety of students with different interests, backgrounds, and perspectives live and learn together. Join one of the Living Life Communities within residence. Take the time to share your experiences, ideas, and interests while listening and learning from others; you never know when you could make a new lifelong friendship!
