How Do High School Counsellors Perceive Their Role? It Can Start in the Parking Lot

Presenter: Sharlene McGowan

Sharlene used a case study design to interview 12 currently practicing high school counsellors about how they perceive their role. Data were analyzed using an interpretivist framework, Durkheim's structural functionalism, and principles of grounded theory. This study found that the high school counsellor role is embedded in tension, ambiguity, and complexity.
