Following Their Voices

The Faculty of Education's Theory and Method Seminar Series

Presenter: Tim Caleval, Ministry of Education

Following Their Voices is a made-in-Saskatchewan job-embedded teacher professional learning and development initiative designed to improve First Nations, Métis and Inuit student outcomes. The initiative uses a train-the-trainer model where school-based facilitators are trained by a provincial Following Their Voices facilitation team.

Following Their Voices focuses on enhancing relationships between students and teachers, creating structures and supports for teachers and school administrators to co-construct teaching and learning interactions with students, and creating safe, well-managed learning environments.

The presentation will provide an overview of the implementation of Following Their Voices in Saskatchewan provincial and on-reserve schools, including the professional learning and development tools that have been developed specifically for the initiative. Participants will see and hear firsthand how this made-in-Saskatchewan initiative is positively impacting the way teachers work with students, the school culture and how it is making a difference in the classroom for Saskatchewan's First Nations, Métis and Inuit students around the province.

Faculty and students are encouraged to attend. Everyone is welcome. Coffee is provided. No registration is required.
