Winter Solstice Celebration

Fri., Dec. 21, 2018 4:00 p.m. - Fri., Dec. 21, 2018 6:00 p.m.

Location: MacKenzie Art Gallery

On the Winter Solstice, the MacKenzie Art Gallery invites you to come gather and share in stories of Treaty 4, and the relationships between land and people. This year, the MacKenzie unvieled Kâkikê / Forever, a new public artwork by Duane Linklater that illuminates Albert Street with the words: “As long as the sun shines, the rivers flow and the grass grows.”

This artwork is a visible reminder of the spirit and intent of the treaties as we move forward into a new year and we continue to incorporate the Truth and Reconciliation’s Calls to Action. We wish to mark this Winter Solstice with a storytelling session led by Knowledge Keepers Betty McKenna and Gary Gott. We ask attendees to reflect on the spirit of the words in Kâkikê / Forever and how we can welcome that spirit into our communities and continue to carry this commitment for future generations.

The MacKenzie Art Galley welcomes you to come listen, to share, and to celebrate new beginnings.

Bannock, tea, hot chocolate, and coffee will be served.
