The content of these courses includes preparing to respond; the EMS system; check, call and care; airway emergencies; breathing and circulation emergencies; first aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest as well as wound care. Please note: 100 % attendance, skills demonstration and a minimum passing grade of 75% is required.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

Standard First Aid and CPR

This is a comprehensive two-day course (16 hours) offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. This course includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. It meets federal and a variety of provincial/territorial regulations for Standard First Aid and CPR and includes injury prevention content, CPR and AED.

Completion Requirements

100% attendance (2 day course), skills demonstration, and 75% minimum passing grade on written exam

Certification

3-year certification in Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, or BLS, and AED.

Recertification

8-9 hours; includes CPR Level C or BLS

  • Must recertify before the expiry date on the certification card

Emergency First Aid and CPR

This basic one-day course (8 hours) offers an overview of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the workplace or home. It includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines and meets OHS regulations for Basic First Aid. This course includes injury prevention content, CPR and AED.

Completion Requirements

100% attendance (1 day course), skills demonstration, and 75% minimum passing grade on written exam

Certification

3-year certification in Emergency First Aid, CPR Level C, and AED

Recertification

4–6 hours; includes CPR Level C

  • Must recertify before the expiry date on the certification card

  • Designed to build participant confidence in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills in a team environment for professionals with a duty to respond. Teaches the important steps to perform a rapid assessment, perform Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, and perform rapid defibrillation including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy can also be added as additional certifications to this course.

Audience: In-facility care providers, including nursing staff, care aides, medical and dental professionals. Pre-hospital care providers, which may include professionals in fire service, rescue team, sports-medicine, lifeguards and ski patrol
