Research interests
The overall objectives of my internationally renowned, externally funded research program (CIHR, SHRF, CFI; Nutricia European Research Foundation) are to develop evidence-based interventions involving nutrition (creatine monohydrate; CR) and physical activity (resistance exercise) which have practical and clinical relevance for improving musculoskeletal aging and reducing the risk of falls and fractures.

Collectively, I have produced 87 peer-refereed publications in high quality journals; have an h-index of 36, i10-index of 49 and my research has been cited > 4300 times (15 papers have been cited > 100 times).

Research interests

My research is centred on the idea that if we work together, we will be able to figure out how we can foster healthier communities, and by extension, a healthier world. My work is community-driven, which means that the topics come from the stakeholders and are real-world issues that need real-world solutions. My work is largely qualitative and spans topics in the fields of: mental health, reproductive health, infectious diseases, health systems, vaccine hesitancy and uptake, violence, research across the lifespan, as well as the impacts of power relationships on health, such as the ongoing effects of colonialism on the health of newcomers and Indigenous peoples.

Research interests

My research program is broadly interested in community development in recreation, sport, and leisure; Wellness-based programming with Indigenous communities and youth; Relational ethics of research and professional practice; Narrative inquiry and qualitative research.

My passion for community-based research led to my current relationship with the Growing Young Movers (GYM) Youth Development as a Research Associate (@gymovers). My ongoing research with GYM narratively inquires into the experiences of Indigenous youth as they compose their lives as wellness leaders.

Rebecca Genoe

Professor

Phone: 306-585-4781
Fax: 306-585-4854

Research interests
My research interests lie in the area of leisure and aging, and Therapeutic Recreation (TR).  I am interested in better understanding the role of leisure in later life transitions, such as retirement, as well as leisure in the lives of older adults living with dementia or a chronic illness.  Taking a qualitative approach, I explore how older adults use leisure to cope with later life transitions and how these transitions impact leisure engagement.  I am also interested in exploring the experiences of TR professionals and how they provide services to their clients.

Cameron Mang

Assistant Professor

Office: CK 164.2
E-mail: cameron.mang@uregina.ca
Phone: 306-585-4066

Research interests

The overarching aim of Cameron’s research program is to develop innovative motor learning and exercise interventions that improve movement abilities for people with neurological conditions. This aim is addressed through a combination of: 1) basic science research designed to improve understanding of how the central nervous system controls movement, and 2) clinical research examining how the neural control of movement is disrupted and rehabilitated after neurological damage. In this research, Cameron commonly employs techniques in neurophysiology (non-invasive brain stimulation, electromyography, neuromuscular electrical stimulation) and exercise physiology (indirect calorimetry).

As a practicing Kinesiologist and Certified Exercise Physiologist in the field of Neurorehabilitation, Cameron is dedicated to conducting research with real-world implications for people with neurological conditions. To this end, he has developed the affiliated ‘Enrich Community Neurorehabilitation Program’ offered at the University of Regina Centre for Health, Wellness, and Performance. This crucial link between research and community programming fosters knowledge mobilization, ensuring the development of clinically meaningful research and evidence-based programming.
