  5. University of Regina Launches New Strategic Plan: Together, We Serve

The University of Regina launched its new strategic plan today, setting a bold course for the institution’s next decade with a focus on learning, discovery, community partnership, reconciliation and innovation.

Unveiled at a vibrant campus gathering in the Ad-Hum Pit, the plan, titled Together, We Serve, reflects more than a year of consultation and collaboration across the University community. Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external partners all contributed ideas and perspectives that helped shape the vision and priorities driving the University forward for the next decade.

Today’s launch marks an important moment, but it is also just the beginning. The work ahead is significant, but I look forward to bringing this plan to life, together. — Dr. Jeff Keshen,President and Vice-Chancellor

For President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jeff Keshen, the new plan represents both continuity and momentum for an institution that has long been defined by its connection to the community.

“What matters most about a strategic plan is not simply the document itself,” said Keshen at today’s event. “What really matters is how it reflects the voices, insights, and aspirations of the community it guides – and ultimately, how it comes to life.”

The plan is structured around one shared vision anchored by five core priorities: Together, We Learn; Together, We Discover; Together, We Build; Together, We Put Things Right; and Together, We Innovate.

Dr. Aziz Douai, dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research and lead of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee, emphasized that the plan’s greatest strength lies in the collective effort that produced it.

“This bold ten-year plan lays out an ambitious vision for the future, and reflects a truly collaborative process,” Douai said. “It brings together the voices and the perspectives of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and Indigenous, and community partners.”

The collaborative process included surveys, workshops and consultations across campus and beyond, ensuring the final plan reflects both the University’s local context and its broader ambitions.

“A strategic plan has a clear destination, key priorities, measurable goals and specific actions,” said physics professor Zisis Papandreou of the strategic plan development process. A member of the steering committee Papandreou added, “But the journey needs to be flexible to respond to changing environments.”

Papandreou noted that the plan must reflect both the University’s prairie roots and the global realities facing higher education today, while continuing to build on the institution’s strong reputation for academic quality and an exceptional student experience.

That perspective is reflected throughout the new plan, which highlights the University’s commitment to accessible education, impactful research and meaningful partnerships with communities across Saskatchewan and beyond.

The plan will also serve as a framework for decision-making and accountability over the coming years. Progress toward the priorities will be monitored and reported regularly, ensuring the plan remains a living document that evolves alongside the University and the communities it proudly serves.

For Keshen, the plan ultimately reflects the spirit that has long defined the University of Regina.

“This plan provides focus while allowing us the flexibility to respond to new opportunities and emerging needs. It strengthens the work already underway across our campuses and aligns our efforts so that they reinforce one another,” he said. “Today’s launch marks an important moment, but it is also just the beginning. The work ahead is significant, and I look forward to bringing this plan to life, together.”
