Advanced English for Academic Purposes
Advanced English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is the highest level of the U of R ESL program. This advanced level not only assists students with common problems students with English as an Additional Language face, but also prepares you for U of R undergraduate and graduate programs by building your academic readiness for success in the University environment.
Once you have completed Advanced EAP, you will meet the U of R's English language proficiency requirement.
Direct entry into Advanced EAP
To be eligible to enter Advanced EAP directly, you have to do at least one of the following:
- Submit proof of an overall IELTS (Academic) Band score of 6.0 with no IELTS Band score less than 5.0,
- Submit proof of a TOEFL Paper score of 525 or a TOEFL iBT score of 70 with no skill below 17, or
- Submit proof of a CAEL score of 50.
These scores must also be submitted no later than the 100% Refund (minus tuition deposit) deadline. If documents are submitted prior to the start of the semester, there is no requirement to write the in-house placement test.
Test results may not be more than 2 years old at the time of application to the ESL Program if they are to be considered for placement.
