Explore Program

Explore logo Do you want to become a more effective communicator in English? Do you want to learn more about and experience Western Canada? 

Each year the U of R offers two five-week Explore sessions (Spring and Summer) to Canadian postsecondary students who are 18 years or older if sponsored with an Explore bursary by the Government of Canada. These programs are also available to international non-bursary students who are 16 years or older. Students under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a chaperone.

• Build your confidence and improve your fluency in English, while having fun.
• Use English in real-life situations, interacting with native English speakers and local residents.
• Receive an average of 6.0 to 6.5 program hours per day, including formal lessons and cultural activities.
• Have access to a library, indoor swimming pool, fitness centre and computer with Internet.
• Visit local places such as the RCMP Training Academy and see where Canada’s RCMP recruits are trained.


The Explore bursary from the Government of Canada covers tuition, textbooks & materials, accommodation, food and many activities with Cultural Assistants (U of R students). Bursary recipients will need to pay a non-refundable registration fee of $275 CAD to confirm their spot. Bursary recipients are also responsible for paying for their flight to Regina. Please note that Explore bursaries come directly to the University of Regina. Bursary recipients do not receive any money from the Government of Canada. The Explore bursary is taxable income for the recipients. For more information, see the Explore Canada website.

The cost for international students is $3,860 CAD. This covers most expenses such as tuition, textbooks & materials, accommodation, food and many activities with Cultural Assistants (U of R students).. For international students, health insurance must be obtained in the student’s home country. International students are responsible for paying for their flight to Regina.

Students may choose the following at additional cost:
• Optional Weekend activities (if offered)
• Swimming pool and fitness centre on-campus
        o $45 fee for unlimited use throughout the program
In this program, students enjoy on-campus residence & meals. For students not staying in residence, the fees will be adjusted accordingly.

Languages at Work

• If you are an Explore participant, you will have the opportunity to receive a job placement after the program. Use your second language in a workplace environment, improve your fluency, build your resume and earn money!
