Meet the 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Awards recipients

Every year the University honours the best and brightest among its over 80,000 alumni. This year’s recipients of the Alumni Crowning Achievement Awards include a former Premier of the province of Saskatchewan, one of Canada’s most respected constitutional lawyers, a tireless advocate for the fight against racism, an enthusiastic long-time volunteer for the University of Regina Rams, and a promising young quantum information theory scholar. Meet the five deserving members of the University of Regina family of alumni who will be formally recognized on October 6, 2021 during the Facebook Live virtual event being held on the University of Regina Alumni Facebook page.

 

Honourable Rev. Lorne Calvert BA’73 is the recipient of the 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Lifetime Achievement. It’s fitting that Lorne should receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement award – after all, he’s devoted a lifetime to the service of others. Service is a huge part of his ethic – service to the province, Church, higher education, and vulnerable people whose voices are seldom heard. Read more…

Honourable Graeme Mitchell, BA’75, BMus’75 is the recipient of the 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Professional Achievement. Prior to being appointed a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan in 2018, Graeme earned an outstanding reputation as a lawyer particularly with respect to Canadian constitutional law. Latoya Reid BSW’18, MSW’21 is the recipient of the 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Humanitarian and Community Service. Latoya, a registered social worker, is a community activist and leader who has focused her advocacy around one of today’s most important issues – anti-racism. Read more…

Doug McKillop BAdmin’76 is the 2021 recipient of the Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Outstanding Service (Dr. Robert and Norma Ferguson Award). Doug has had a long and distinguished career in the accounting profession and has been a tireless community volunteer, especially for the University of Regina Rams football club. Read more…

Dr. Sarah Plosker BSc’08, MSc’10 is the recipient of the 2021 Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Outstanding Young Alumni. When she graduated from the University of Regina, Sarah’s instructors were confident that the bright, industrious, and articulate student was destined for greater achievements.
