Cougars win CCSA title

SASKATOON, Sask. – The University of Regina women’s softball team won the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association championship on the weekend, defeating the Durham Lords 8-1 in the final on Sunday to capture the title.

The Cougars completed the weekend with a 6-0 record, capped off by a dominant performance in the final to earn the national title.

Regina opened the tournament with wins over Western and St. Clair College, before downing Durham and Calgary to close the round robin. A 4-1 win against Calgary propelled the Cougars to the final where the mercy rule came into effect after the fourth inning.

Leslie Miller was named the tournament MVP and Top Pitcher, and Katrina Bear earned All-Star honours among outfielders.

Miller was the winning pitcher in four of Regina’s games, with Mckenzie Acton and Rachael Huber picking up wins in the other two games. This marks the first national championship for the Cougars since 2012.
