
Playwright's Reading Series: Vern Thiessen

Vern Thiessen will be reading from his award-winning and recent dramatic work.
Considered one of the most diverse and successful Canadian playwrights, Thiessen's plays have been performed off-Broadway, in regional theatres, and around the world. They include one-person shows (Shakespeare's Will), comedies (Blowfish, A More Perfect Union) and historical drama (Vimy, Einstein's Gift, The Courier, Lenin's Embalmers) as well as musicals (two with composer Olaf Pyttlik: Rich and Rapa Nui) and theatre for youth (Bird Brain).
Thiessen is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Governor General's Award for Drama in 2003. He is an Associate Artist with Epic Theatre Ensemble in New York City, where he wrties, teaches, and acts, and a member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre.
