Playwright's Reading Series: Colleen Murphy

Governor General’s Award-winning playwright Colleen Murphy will be reading from her recent dramatic work.

Murphy is well known to Regina writers and audiences as an award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker, as well as a former playwright in residence at the University of Regina (2006). As a prolific and widely produced writer both in Canada and abroad, Murphy’s readings from her powerful and sometimes controversial dramatic writing should give audiences a taste of current work by a writer who brings heart and humour to the exploration of tough issues and concerns of immediate importance to both society and everyday individuals.

A playwright, screenwriter and filmmaker, Murphy is the author of Fire-Engine Red, All Other Destinations Are Cancelled, Down in Adoration Falling, Beating Heart Cadaver, The Piper, The December Man (L'homme de décembre), The Goodnight Bird, Armstrong’s War, and Pig Girl.

Murphy’s award-winning film career began in 1990 with her screenplay Termini Station. Her films have included Putty Worm, The Feeler, Desire, War Holes, Girl With Dog and Out In the Cold.

Currently, Murphy is playwright in residence at Wilfrid Laurier University.
