  5. Best and brightest: U of R welcomes 14 future leaders on full Chancellor’s Scholarships

As the school year wraps up and graduation festivities begin, the University of Regina is excited to recognize 14 future leaders from across Saskatchewan and BC as they get ready to start their post-secondary journeys on campus this fall, thanks to a full-ride scholarship supported by the Chancellor’s Scholarship donors.

“Recipients of the Chancellor’s Scholarship demonstrate two of the most important qualities of leadership – they are passionate about strengthening community and are driven by curiosity and a hunger for learning,” said Cadmus Delorme, Chancellor of the University of Regina. “It is my distinct pleasure to welcome them to campus where they will pursue their academic dreams over the next four years with full University support, while developing their leadership skills and enhancing our communities.”

Chancellor’s Scholarships are worth $40,000 each and include leadership programming, academic mentoring, on-campus housing for the Scholars’ first year, and more, all thanks to the vision and generosity of the Chancellor’s Scholarship donors.

The Chancellor’s Scholarship will benefit my studies by taking away the financial stress and worry of student debt, which allows me to put my full focus on my education and make the most of my university experience. — Walker Strueby, 2026 Chancellor’s Scholar in the Faculty of Education

Donors to the Chancellor’s Scholarship program are philanthropic leaders from business, academia, and the community who are dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders  and transforming the lives of talented University of Regina students by education. In addition to the Chancellor’s Scholarship program, Chancellor’s donors support two $25,000 Chancellor’s Fellowships which are offered annually to graduate students to help them pursue their groundbreaking research, leadership experience, and community outreach. The 2026 graduate Fellows will be announced in June.

“The Chancellor’s Scholarship will benefit my studies by taking away the financial stress and worry of student debt, which allows me to put my full focus on my education and make the most of my university experience,” said Walker Strueby, who is graduating from Vanier Collegiate in Moose Jaw and will begin his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Regina this fall.

“I chose to pursue education because I have seen the impact teachers and coaches in a high school setting can have on a student’s life,” Strueby added. “The teachers and coaches I had the pleasure of learning from throughout my time at Vanier Collegiate helped shape me into who I am today. And, with both of my parents completing Education degrees at the University of Regina, schools and the education setting have been positive constants in my life for as long as I can remember.”

Strueby is an athlete, entrepreneur, and community supporter. He owns MJ Auto Detailing which he started in July 2025 and has detailed over 100 vehicles, in addition to competing in basketball, volleyball, and track and field throughout high school, and refereeing hockey games.

“This fall, these 14 high-achieving new Chancellor’s Scholars will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors from two outstanding cohorts, as they pursue their academic ambitions in a wide range of disciplines, from Science to Education, Nursing, and Art,” said Dr. Jeff Keshen, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Regina. “I look forward to seeing how they enrich campus life and grow into the community‑minded leaders our world needs.”
