Bachelor of Social Work After Degree
The Bachelor of Social Work After Degree is a great option if you already have a 3 or 4 year Canadian Accredited Social Science or Humanities university degree and are looking to build a meaningful career helping others. It’s a focused, professional program designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and real-world experience needed to support individuals, families, and communities.
What makes this program especially exciting is the combination of classroom learning and hands-on practicum experience. You won’t just learn about social work, you’ll practice it in real settings, building confidence and connections along the way.
By the time you graduate, you’ll be prepared for a rewarding career in areas like mental health, child and family services, healthcare, and community organizations. Many students also go on to pursue further education or leadership roles in the field. It’s a fast-track way to turn your existing degree into a career that makes a real difference.
You can study through flexible delivery options, including in-person, online, and remote classes via Zoom. The program is offered province-wide, with campuses in Regina and Saskatoon, and options to complete most of your coursework from a distance.
This is a new program. For Fall 2026 admission, the application deadline is June 15, 2026. In future years, applications will be due annually on January 15.
What is the Bachelor of Social Work After Degree?
The Bachelor of Social Work After Degree focuses on understanding people within their environment, including how social, economic, cultural, and political factors shape individual and community well-being. You will explore topics such as mental health, trauma, family dynamics, social justice, and policy, while developing practical skills in communication, advocacy, and ethical decision-making.
This field is especially important in today’s world, where many communities are facing complex challenges such as housing insecurity, mental health concerns, addiction, and systemic inequality. Social workers play a critical role in supporting vulnerable populations, influencing policy, and helping build stronger, more inclusive communities.
One of the most impactful aspects of social work is its wide range of applications. Graduates work in hospitals, schools, child welfare agencies, correctional facilities, and community organizations. In Canada, the demand for social workers continues to grow, reflecting the increasing need for professionals who can respond to evolving social issues and support positive change at both individual and systemic levels.
Some courses you may take as part of this program include:
SW 345 - Human Development in a Social Context
This course examines the interface of lifespan human development (biological, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and social) with the social and cultural environment in which people live, with application for social work practice.
SW 350 - Anti-Oppressive Social Work Practice
The aim of this course is to unravel the underlying threads of multiple oppressions and the intersection of various sources and forms of oppression. The course will focus on anti-oppressive theoretical perspectives, laws, actions, advocacy, social work ethics and their application to social work practice and policy.
SW 390 – Communication Skills in Social Work
This course specifically focuses on the development of skills necessary for competent social work communication in a variety of social work roles and settings. An introduction to communication theory is provided with an emphasis on skill development for students.
