The U of R’s vice-president of administration, Dave Button, has been honoured by an international organization that promotes leadership in educational institutions.

Button is one of five people to be honoured by the APPA, previously known as the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, based in the Washington, D.C. area. The APPA has 12,000 members in 1,300 educational institutions.

Button was presented with the President’s Award at the APPA annual conference recently in Nashville, TN.

“Dave Button has led APPA’s Mexico Initiative since 2012 with great skill and tenacity, extreme passion, and tireless effort,” said Pete Strazdas, APPA’s president.  “He has taken great care to strategically identify the specific needs and issues of educational institutions in Mexico. Dave continues to challenge us to think long term about the importance of an entire North American continent footprint.”

Button says "It’s always great to receive such a prestigious individual award, but the success is shared with a number of international colleagues who have been a part of this great initiative to integrate Mexico into our association. The success was also made possible through the huge assistance by our own U of R Associate Vice-President International, Livia Castellanos, who made most of the really important introductions and partnerships possible.”

Button was the only Canadian honoured. Other recipients were: Michelle Frederick, American University; John Goes and Lowell Rinker, both retired from Western Michigan University; and Dana Peterson, University of New Hampshire.

“It’s also great to see the University of Regina name displayed so boldly in APPA press releases and on stage. This definitely helps with our international profile and reputation," Button adds.
