Janessa Fox got the first-class treatment recently thanks to her meeting with Calin Rovinescu, the CEO of Air Canada.

Fox, a third-year accounting student at the Paul J. Hill School of Business, joined nine other business students from across Canada to meet Rovinescu at an event honouring him as CEO of the year. Fox was the only student from Saskatchewan.

“It was a very formal event, taking place at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Toronto. It was slightly overwhelming being surrounded by such accomplished individuals,” she says.

Each student was also presented with a scholarship for $7,500 in recognition of their exemplary leadership in academics, as well as in extracurricular activities.

“It was an honour to be able to attend such a prestigious gala. It was a great opportunity to network with incredible business leaders in Canada,” says Fox.

Last fall Caldwell Partners announced that the Hill and Levene Schools of Business at the U of R were selected as one of ten business programs across Canada to participate in Canada’s Outstanding CEO of the Year Futures Fund Program.

Fox grew up in Regina and graduated from Balfour Collegiate.

“I knew the U of R had a good business program, so I decided to go to the U of R so that I could live at home while attending university,” says Fox.

“Janessa is one of our top students and has participated on our JDC West team, winning Western Canada’s School of the Year in January. She has also participated in our summer study programs, first in May 2015, travelling to Shanghai to take two courses over four weeks with our partner school, then in June 2016 she travelled to take two courses with our partner in Paris,” says Andrew Gaudes, Dean of the Hill and Levene Schools of Business.

“We were very proud to have Janessa Fox represent our Hill School of Business and University of Regina at the event, and thank Caldwell Partners for giving both the Hill School and Janessa this opportunity to be recognized among the business elite attending the celebration,” Gaudes adds.
