Under a sunny Saskatchewan sky, hundreds of Congress volunteers turned out for a picnic lunch on the Lloyd Barber Academic Green.

“The reason Congress was memorable was because of you – 100 per cent because of each and every one of you,” President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons said.

She was referring to the more than 500 volunteers – faculty, staff, students, alumni, and members of the general public – who showed off our Prairie hospitality during Congress.

As volunteers ate burgers and watermelon, and sipped lemonade, Timmons thanked them for making Congress 2018 an event to remember.

“By working together, you made Congress a huge success. Your volunteer spirit and generosity impressed visitors from across Canada and around the world! I know we had the best volunteers of any Congress – and I’ve been to about 20 of them.”

President Timmons shared with the custodial staff, “You made the campus look beautiful, you kept it beautiful, and you were amazing.”

The Academic Convenor for Congress 2018, Dr. André Magnan, also thanked the volunteers, saying, “Everywhere I went visitors mentioned how pleasant it was to deal with our very friendly volunteers. I know that our volunteers had a lot to do with changing the opinion of some visitors who underestimated Regina and the University of Regina.”

“One scholar from Moscow said, ‘The campus is much better than Harvard and the volunteers are amazing.’  We heard comments like that all week,” President Timmons shared.

She added, “The greatest gift you can give is your time. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving us the gift of your time. I’m so proud of this campus, and most of all I’m proud of you. You made our University look so good.”
