Social Insurance Number (SIN)

This identification number is a legal requirement for working in Canada. Getting a SIN should be one of the first tasks postdocs from abroad do upon arriving in Canada. More information can be found in the UR international page .

Income tax and tax returns

Postdocs must file taxes annually at the end of the fiscal year (April 30), for the previous year (January 1 to December 31). To access your T4 at UR Self-Service, please visit UR Self-Service. You can perform the tax calculation on your own using free software or consider hiring a company in the City. Transportation

Buses can take time, and for your convenience, we recommend downloading the bus application to your phone. For more information, please see here.

There are several bus routes to and from the University main. You can find more information about these routes on the University's Parking and Transportation website. Monthly passes can be purchased at the URSU office, located on the second floor of the Riddell Centre.

Having a car is a significant advantage in Regina. For information on obtaining a driver's license or enrolling in driving lessons, please refer to the SGI website, the organization responsible for licenses and registration in the province.

The Collective Agreement (CA) for Research Employees, belonging to the bargaining unit CUPE local 5791, can be accessed through UR Source. You can find the complete CA document here.

Access to the gym, pool and various fitness course offerings can be found through UR Rec Services.

FGSR Resources

Professional Development (PD) and training opportunities are available year-round through the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR). For more information and to explore these offerings, please visit URGradExperience.

We encourage postdocs to join the different workshops and training opportunities. You can obtain a Graduate Teaching Enhancement Certificate offered in collaboration with the Centre for Teaching and Learning, and participate in entrepreneurship initiatives through the GATE centre. Monthly workshops are announced in Grad Digest via email.

FGSR organizes several events specifically dedicated to postdocs such as the National Postdoc Appreciation Week in September.
