Dr. Shannon Dea, former Dean of Arts and Professor of Philosophy at the U of R, is the author of Beyond the Binary: Thinking about Sex and Gender. Her book aims to answer these questions and others with a multi-disciplinary approach from history, gender studies, philosophy, literature, religion, and science.
