Canada Day was extra special this year for Regina businessman and U of R supporter Paul Hill.  He was appointed to the Order of Canada by Governor General David Johnston for his achievements as a business leader and for his generous contributions to community and education initiatives.

Hill – chairman, president and CEO of The Hill Companies – has close ties to the University of Regina.  The undergraduate business program is called the Paul J. Hill School of Business because he has demonstrated his personal commitment to the School both through a generous financial gift and his ongoing contribution to the School’s activities. The Hill School of Business also enjoys a unique and strategic partnership with the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He also supports the Business Ethics program and the Catholic Studies program at Campion College.

As well as his involvement with the University of Regina, Hill has contributed to Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, and Mother Theresa Middle School in Regina.

The Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours, was established in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Over the last 45 years, more than 6,000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.

“I feel privileged to be part of the group that’s being honoured by my country,” Hill says.

Hill’s community involvement runs in the family.  His grandfather, Walter, was involved in the insurance and land development business even before Regina became a city in 1903. His father, Fred, took over the family business in 1953. One of his first big deals was the development of the Hillsdale subdivision. The Frederick W. Hill Mall in downtown Regina is named after him.

Paul Hill has been president of The Hill Companies since 1978. He and his wife, Carol, were named the CTV Regina Citizens of the Year in 2014 for their service and gifts to various community organizations.
