U of R celebrated the accomplishments of more than 900 graduates at the Fall 2022 Convocation

The University of Regina, celebrated the achievements of 923 graduating students who received 957 degrees, diplomas and certificates 923 at the Fall 2022 Convocation on Friday, October 21, 2022.

“The University community joins family and friends in recognizing and applauding the achievements of students receiving their credentials at this Fall’s Convocation,” said University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jeff Keshen. “These graduates have worked diligently to reach this momentous occasion and have proven their innovative and resilient spirit by doing so in the midst of a pandemic, which included an unprecedented disruption to in-person instruction during the past two years.”

“To the Fall 2022 graduating students I send my well-wishes and hopes for your continued success,” said University of Regina Chancellor Pam Klein. “I know the time you have spent at the University of Regina, the knowledge and experiences you have gained, and the lifelong friendships you have made, will be invaluable in all your future endeavours.”

The University also presented Rachel Mielke with an Honorary Degree, its highest honour in recognition of her exceptional service to the community. Mielke a U of R alum and successful entrepreneur who founded her purpose-led jewellery company, Hillberg & Berk. Being a purpose-lead business has deepened the company’s connections with the community, its impact, and overall business success. In addition to using the business’s platform to elevate women, Hillberg & Berk has contributed over $10M in donations to hundreds of organizations since its inception. Since 2018, H&B has contributed over 20 per cent of its annual profit to partner organizations focused on supporting women.

 Having recently overcome a cancer diagnosis, Mielke has candidly shared her experiences. She is a passionate advocate and co-chair of, Women Leading Philanthropy, a membership-led group of women in Saskatchewan through the Royal University Hospital Foundation, which funds innovative health care initiatives in the province

The University also recognized 11 special graduates who received 17 academic awards recognizing their outstanding scholastic achievements and their contributions to the University and to the broader community including:

  • The Distinguished Graduate Student Award, was presented to Andriaherimanana Sarobidy Razafimahatratra, Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics. This award is presented at Fall Convocation to the most distinguished student at the Master’s or Doctoral level who has defended theses, or completed final exhibitions or performances, and is graduating at either the spring or fall convocation ceremony.
  • Maria Umme Masoom Azam, was the recipient of University of Regina President’s Medal. Azam graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Great Distinction and a minor in Creative Technologies. The President’s Medal is awarded at each Convocation to a student receiving a first undergraduate degree who best combines academic excellence, significant leadership, and commitment to extra-curricular activities.
