Waste – we will be mindful of all we use, decrease what we waste and initiate practices that avoid the waste stream altogether.

Are you passionate about responsible use and management of Earth’s natural resources? Do you recycle with a passion and care about reducing waste?  This thematic group focuses on waste reduction strategies on campus and the responsible production and consumption of goods.

While the University has made great strides in reducing waste, we still have a long way to go.  With the population of a small city, our University Campus generates a significant volume of waste through use of bathrooms, research and laboratory use, consumption of food and other daily activities such as using a computer or printer.

We welcome your feedback on strategies to help the University become better stewards of the environment by identifying opportunities for us to reduce our waste output!

Please join us and other members of our campus community on any of the following dates to provide your ideas on identifying and reducing waste.

We would love to hear your ideas and opinions. Please assist us by answering these questions:

1. What activities on campus generate waste?

2. How can we reduce the generation of waste in each of those activities you listed above?

3. Are there alternate activities we could be doing instead of some of the ones you listed?

4. How can we treat and reuse the wastes produced on Campus?

5. How does this issue relate to our Strategic Plan?

6. How would you rate the University’s performance in managing the different types of waste on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being excellent and 1 being poor?

7. What has the UR done, what programs/policies/ are in place already to address waste reduction?

8. What challenges may prevent us from solving the problem?

Share your vision

  • How do you see the campus managing waste in each of those categories in the next three years, five years and ten years.

If you are unable to attend one of the meetings, we would welcome your written submission to the above questions before June 30, 2021.
