The Department of Psychology’s Dr. Thomas Hadjistavropoulos, known by his peers as a strong leader both in the classroom and in the lives of his students, has received an award from the University of Regina Alumni Association for his outstanding support of graduate students.

In April 2015, Hadjistavropoulos was awarded the Excellence Award for Graduate Research Mentorship.

During Hadjistavropoulos’ time at the University of Regina, he has helped to support over 100 students through his grants, facilitating their academic pursuits.

In addition, his students have had opportunities to publish peer-reviewed articles, chapters and abstracts together with their academic mentor. Such publications have been essential to these students’ academic success by helping them to establish a publication track record and pursue exciting avenues of research.

The quality of Hadjistavropoulos’ supervision has been described by many former students as encouraging, dedicated, collaborative, and “unmatched.”

His colleagues are quick to note that his 28 graduate degree recipients have gone on to great achievements of their own, fuelled in large part by the guidance and opportunities they received under his supervision.

“We are very proud of Dr. Hadjistavropoulos’ own research and teaching accomplishments, and this honour recognizes how much he has done to support graduate students in the Department of Psychology,” remarked Dr. Thomas Chase, Provost and Vice-President (Academic). “Mentorship plays a central role in graduate student success, and it ensures we maintain a strong focus on our students.”

The University of Regina and the University of Regina of Alumni Association have collaborated since 1990 to celebrate the achievements of our most accomplished faculty in the areas of teaching, research, service and graduate research mentorship.
