It didn’t take long for the creative juices to get flowing for a group of film students, thanks to a very tight deadline.

The student had a mere half-day to write, shoot, and edit a film. Welcome to the 12-Hour Film Challenge.

Now the students get to see their work on display and judged at the second annual Film Students’ Association Awards Gala on Saturday February 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the Riddell Centre’s Multipurpose Room.

Film Students' Gala
The gala will feature screenings of the five finished films, followed by an awards ceremony.

“The film challenge and gala is really a way for students to meet and work with peers that they may not normally get to work with because they are in different classes or different years of study,” says Morgan Jones, a third-year student studying film production.

Jones worked as as an assistant director and co-editor in the film challenge.

The students registered with their top three choices of positions in a film crew, which included director, editor, writer, director of photography, sound, assistant director, and actor.

Each film runs between three and five minutes..

“It's a great way to see how you work with each other, as well as how you work under pressure,” says Jones.

“The gala is also a way for us to showcase our work not only to film students, but also to students of other faculties that may not have had the chance to get involved.”

The awards gala is open to the public and will feature screenings of the five films, an awards ceremony (which includes an interactive viewers’ choice awards) trivia, prizes, food, drinks and a red carpet.
