“I look forward to the Inspiring Leadership Forum all year long and this was the best one yet!”

That enthusiastic response seemed to be echoed by the more than 600 attendees at yesterday’s sold-out University of Regina’s Inspiring Leadership Forum (ILF), held one day prior to International Women’s Day.

In its ninth year, the ILF is the brainchild of Dr. Vianne Timmons, University President and Vice-Chancellor. A premier leadership development event, the Forum provides an opportunity for people from all walks of life within Saskatchewan and beyond to hear the inspirational stories of internationally renowned leaders.

“When we come together as leaders, as women, to share stories we are inspired,” says Timmons. “The personal stories shared by our keynote speakers and local panelists were an inspiration to all who attended and underscored the need to surround ourselves in our work and daily lives with people who lift us up,” said Dr. Timmons.

This year’s theme, Scaling New Heights, was highlighted by keynote speakers:
•    Manjit Minhas, Co-founder of Minhas Breweries & Distillery
•    Barb Stegemann, Founder and CEO, The 7 Virtues
•    Bonnie Brooks, former President, Hudson’s Bay Company

In addition, the Saskatchewan Leaders Panel featuring three homegrown leaders modelling what it means to scale new heights both professionally and personally, included:
•    Moderator: Brenda Lucki, Assistant Commissioner, Commanding Office of “Depot” Division
•    Becki Bitternose, Owner, PlayBuffalo
•    Pam Klein, President, The Phoenix Group
•    Aimee Schulhauser, Owner, Tangerine Restaurant

Dr. Timmons opening remarks stressed, “In this #MeToo era, as women learn to speak our truth out loud, we need to listen to and learn from one another’s stories, and press for gender equality where everyone has opportunity to reach their full potential. It is possible.”

The 2019 Inspiring Leadership Forum: Defying the Odds will feature keynote speakers Cheryl Strayed and Elizabeth Smart (among others). ILF 2019 will take place Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Special 10th anniversary planning is underway. Watch www.uofrinspiringleadership.com for details.
