University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons presented the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club with the annual President’s Community Award to acknowledge the organization’s longstanding commitment to the province.

“For more than 100 years, the Roughriders have been there for our province both on and off the field,” says Timmons. “From supporting amateur sport in Saskatchewan, to promoting provincial health-related initiatives such as the “Bleed Green” campaign with Canadian Blood Services, to building community through partnerships with the Red Cross and Mamaweyatitan Community Centre, the Roughriders continue to contribute in so many ways to the life of our province.”

Craig Reynolds, President and CEO of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club accepted the award on behalf of the Roughrider organization.

“Our Club takes great pride in giving back to our province and the people who continually support us,” he said. “It is an honour to be recognized by President Timmons and the University of Regina for this award.”

The President’s Community Award was created in 2010 to recognize individuals or organizations who have a strong history working to better the lives of others in Saskatchewan.

“Not only do the Roughriders work to enhance Saskatchewan communities – they help put us on the map nationally and even internationally,” says Timmons. “They are a source of pride and inspiration for everyone connected to our province, and as a community-owned organization, they are an important part of our shared provincial identity.”

Previous winners include: Dr. Jacqui Shumiatcher, philanthropist (2016); Mrs. Cindy Fuchs for the Canadian Red Cross–Saskatchewan Division (2015); Mrs. Rena Kapoor, community volunteer (2014); The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Member of Parliament (2013); Mr. Pat Fiacco, former Mayor of Regina; Mr. Jim Scarrow, former Mayor of Prince Albert; and, in 2010, the inaugural President’s Community Award was presented to RCMP “Depot” Division for 125 years of service to the province.
