Safety Training


Below are the online (UR Courses) training courses and mandatory workshops currently being offered by Health and Safety. 

Please read the training instructions below carefully in order to ensure your timely and successful completion of the course(s) and mandatory workshop (where applicable) you requested.

 *Consumable Radiation Safety is currently not available; under review for updating.


Safety training participants who register for both Chemical & Lab Safety and Biosafety Awareness will be required to successfully complete the online training for both courses and successfully complete a Chemical & Lab Safety mandatory workshop within three weeks from the date they are registered for the online training.

Safety training participants who have registered for both Chemical & Lab Safety will then have three weeks (from the date of successfully completing a Chemical & Lab Safety mandatory workshop) to register and complete a mandatory Biosafety Awareness workshop.

Email requests for training will not be accepted.  




• Health and Safety only replies and sends online training information to official uofr email addreses during regular business hours. 

• Health and Safety regular business hours are Monday to Friday 8:15 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm

• Health and Safety does not monitor emails on weekends and statutory holidays

 

Chemical & Lab Safety Mandatory Workshops


Chemical & Lab Safety workshops have a maximum of ten (10) participants.

You must have successfully completed Chemical & Lab Safety online training no less than 24 hours prior to requesting a workshop.

Chemical & Lab Safety participants are required to request AND complete a mandatory workshop for Chemical & Lab Safety within *three (3) weeks from successfully completing the online training for Chemical & Lab Safety,

If you do not request AND successfully complete the mandatory Chemical & Lab Safety workshop (WHMIS exam) within three weeks from successfully completing the online training portion of the course, you will be required to repeat the online training and request another workshop. 

NOTEThis may result in being denied access to teaching and research space(s) that require the completion of this course.


How to Request a Chemical & Lab Safety Workshop


Participants who successfully complete the online training for Chemical & Lab Safety, will be sent an email to their official uofr email address, providing two or three CLS workshop date/times (based on instructor availability) in which the participant will be asked to select the date/time that is most convenient for them. 

The scheduled workshop date/time will be based on a majority request.  Participants will receive a confirmation email sent to their official email address no less than three days prior to the confirmed workshop date/time.



 


Biosafety Awareness Mandatory Workshops


Biosafety Awareness workshops are being delivered with a maximum of six (6) participants.

You must have successfully completed Biosafety Awareness online training (CLS workshop) no less than 24 hours prior to requesting a Biosafety Awareness workshop date/time.

Biosafety Awareness participants are required to request AND complete a mandatory workshop for Biosafety Awareness (Chemical & Lab Safety Workshop must be completed first) within *three (3) weeks from successfully completing the online training for Biosafety Awareness.

If you do not request and successfully complete a mandatory Biosafety Awareness workshop (Hazardous Identification and Autoclave assignment) within three weeks from successfully completing the online training portion of the course, you will be required to repeat the online training and request another workshop. 

NOTEThis may result in being denied access to teaching and research space(s) that require the completion of this course.

Autoclave Training information will be provided, by email, with your certificate


How to Request a Biosafety Awareness Workshop


Participants who successfully complete the online training for Chemical & Lab Safety (CLS) and successfully complete a CLS workshop, will be sent an email to their official uofr email address, providing two or three Biosafety Awareness workshop date/times (based on instructor availability) in which the participant will be asked to select the date/time that is most convenient for them. 

The scheduled workshop date/time will be based on a majority request.  Participants will receive a confirmation email sent to their official email address no less than three days prior to the confirmed workshop date/time.
